Timeless Wisdom: The Relevance of the Buddha’s Teachings in Our Modern World
Throughout the course, we will focus on the Buddha’s foundational teaching, the Four Noble Truths, to uncover how this framework continues to provide essential insights into the human condition, offering a path to true happiness and fulfillment in any context. The course will also explore the Eightfold Path, the Buddha’s practical advice for ethical living, mental discipline, and wisdom, and how it can be applied in daily life to create a sense of purpose and well-being. Additionally, we will focus on the importance of mindfulness and meditation, which are essential tools for calming the mind, reducing stress, and developing greater focus in today’s fast-paced world. Participants will learn how to integrate these practices into their personal and professional lives.
December 5, Thursday
This class offers a clear and detailed explanation of how to identify the object of negation, which refers to the inherent existence we mistakenly project onto ourselves and all phenomena. Failure to accurately pinpoint this subtle misperception can result in either reifying the false view of inherent existence or falling into nihilism. Both of these extremes prevent the actual realization of emptiness.
December 6
An Introduction to the Six Perfections
December 7-8
This retreat will focus on Chandrakirti’s teachings on the Six Perfections (Paramitas)—generosity, ethics, patience, joyous effort, concentration, and wisdom—as the key practices for transforming both our spiritual and daily lives. Tengyur Rinpoche will offer detailed commentary on how these perfections serve as the foundation for achieving the perfection of wisdom, and how each is integral to cultivating a compassionate heart and an awakened mind.
